Since his conversion to Christ, Tim has collaborated with both mainstream (secular) artists and Christian artists without any visible discrimination. Question is why no one hasn’t tried to hang him up on a cross for it. Let’s get into that.
First of all, forget nostalgia; one doesn’t have to go back to the Zone Fam days to experience the mastery of Tim f.k.a Thugga – he is as “hard” a rapper today as he was almost a decade ago. You’re probably thinking that’s an understatement. You are right (insert deserved cred here). His mastery as a lyricist never goes unnoticed hence his long trail of incredible features.
That aside, history has shown us that collaboration between gospel artists and non-gospel artists often cause an uproar of some sort. The confusion tends to confuse fans who either criticize or switch from their admired gospel artist to another. This is something one may expect after looking at Tim’s collaborations. But why do the fans stay loyal? It could be a couple of reasons. Here are three possible reasons.
Tim is sincere: People can smell a fraud from a mile away and Tim doesn’t appear to be that guy. On stage, in studio or in person Tim has a very sincere vibe. This originality may be one reason the fans are attracted to his personality.
The Gospel At The Centre: Whether it’s a song by DJ H-Mac, Mzenga Man or Mag44, the gospel message takes centre stage in Tim’s lyrics. No matter how hard other rappers go on a song, Tim doesn’t flinch. He proves he’s a beast and doesn’t waver into show off mode but stays a Christian rapper.
Fan-Star Complex: This is a made-up phrase but a true concept. Certain artists can get away with certain lyrics or song features for the simple reason that their followers hold them in very high esteem.
Whatever it is, we are privileged to see the gospel message preached through a talented rapper who holds his ground and doesn’t water down lyrics to fit in.
