Gospel singer and creative professional in media and CEO of New Era Media publishers Mutale Kapaso gave her two cents about Zambia being a Christian nation. Read below.
“Since the change of Events There has been alot of things said and now the talk is moving to touch a subject that strikes a nerve and that is the Declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation. I am grateful that we are living in an era where we are encouraged to express our minds on touchy subjects so let me share mine.”
“During my prayer time something became more clear to me as I reflected on our nation and the call of us as a Christian Nation. I begun to see a real misconception about this declaration. The biggest misconception I have observed is that we think this declaration was initiated by us and that is an error that needs to be corrected. We need to realize that this declaration was not initiated by us, we didn’t call ourselves to be a Christian nation. It was God Himself who initiated and called us to be His own, we simply by God’s good grace heard and responded to this High call. And when we realize and accept this truth then we will not only understand but experience the power of what it means to be called as His own.”
“We don’t just call ourselves Christian to make each other feel good or that we are perfect and flawless, we call ourselves Christian as a declaration to each other and the nations in the world to say we have accepted the call of God to be His own – we are in covenant with God (Lev 20:26). Understand God is the one who initiated this call not us, the miracle is we heard and we accepted this high calling even when we did not deserve it (1 Pet 2:9). So when we start saying things like remove this declaration because after all people are not acting like Christians we are really saying God made a mistake in calling us and we don’t want to be chosen or belonging to God, say what you want but from my understanding it’s a rejection of God’s call publicly and don’t say Christianity should be in the heart.”
“Is it only in the hearts when two people are married? It’s a public covenant, and it is so everyone else can know these people are marked for each other and everyone else must stay away! So how much more a covenant with God? You cant hide the fact that you are in covenant with God whether individually or as a nation. And you know fam, things don’t catch God by surprise, He knew we would sometimes fall short but that doesn’t change the fact that we are called His own. It’s like as a child when you do something that displeases your Father do you change your name all together, no instead you repent by changing your ways all together.”
“Lastly Child of God, there is power in a name, some names are more powerful than others, but there is a name above every name and to be called by this name should be the highest honor for us as individuals and as a nation – Blessed is the nation whose God is The Lord And the people He has Chosen for His Own Inheritance (Ps 33:12). All this to say, Don’t break the pillar that’s holding together the good we see in our land, let’s instead focus on the real issues that need fixing, let’s not fix what’s not broken, do not touch what makes for the foundation of everything good about our Zambia. I rest my case.” Mutale Kapaso.
